This weekend was said to be quite sunny. Therefore we decided to spend two days in Oberstdorf. We haven't been there for three months and started to miss the mountains. When we woke up on Saturday morning the weather was fine as promised. There was a lot of snow the day before. The famous Breitachklamm just opened on this day. Actually it is full with icicles the whole winter, but this year it was closed until Saturday because of too warm temperatures! We walked from Oberstdorf to the Breitachklamm and enjoyed the view down the canyon. It is an amazing natural spectacle! From the end of the Breitachklamm we continued to walk up in the direction of Söllereck. Close to the cable car station we enjoyed a coffee and cake before walking back down to Oberstdorf.

On Sunday when we woke up it was snowing heavily. After breakfast we went to watch some ski jumping. We have never seen someone doing it before and it looked very scary! Afterwards it was still snowing and so we decided to go bouldering in the climbing hall. That was fun! When we came back outside the sky was blue again and the snow stopped. So we enjoyed some more sunshine before taking the train back to Stuttgart.

When we woke up today we saw many clouds out there and the weather forecast said that it will rain later in the day. So we decided to do only a short hike. We started in Oberstdorf and went in the direction of Gerstruben. Gerstruben is the highest village of Germany at 1155m. We chose the way via the Hölltobel and where amazed by the amounts of water coming down there!
On the way back to Oberstdorf we walked through a forest and along the way stopped for a cake and coffee. Fortunately no rain came 🙂

Today we took the bus to Birgsau and from there starting walking in the direction of the Krumbacher Höhenweg via Guggensee. We followed the Krumbacher Höhenweg almost until we reached the Fellhorn cablecar and then walked back to Oberstdorf. Even if it was still warm and sunny you can feel that winter is about to come!

What an amazing autumn day! On top of the mountains we can already see the first snow this winter. We started in Oberstdorf and walked to Gerstruben. From there we followed the way to the Dietersbachalpe. Many people still enjoyed food and drinks there in the sunshine. We continued upwards to the Älpelesattel which was already partly covered by snow. We were completely alone on our way. On top we had a long break and lay in the sunshine. Then we walked down to the Käseralpe and from there to the Oytalhaus. There we got some scooters which took us fast back to Oberstdorf!

From Oberstdorf we take the bus to Baad. There we start to walk in the direction of Widderstein Hut.

The path which leads us to about 2000 metres is quite nice. We enjoy the walk and the sunshine. After about 1-2 hours we see the path that leads up to Großer Widderstein which is a summit about 2500 metres high. There are many people going up and down the Widderstein today. The last 500 metres
are climbing in grade 1. It is nice to go up there because you always have to use your hands as well which makes the way up more interesting. On the summit we enjoy the view around.

From the summit we take the same way back until we reach the Widderstein Hut. There we enjoy a cold drink and get the last two sleeping places for the night. It is a warm day with lots of sunshine. We had a great dinner and afterwards we went to our sleeping room. We share the room with 18 other people and some of them
are snorring. Nevertheless we sleep well and enjoy the breakfast the next morning.

Now it is becoming more cloudy and we decide to go down to the valley. On our way back to the Kleinwalsertal we see many nice colorful flowers. After a few hours we arrive in Mittelberg where we take the bus back to Oberstdorf. In Oberstdorf we enjoy the last hours of this nice weekend with Strudl and coffee in the Cafe Mozart.
