From Oberstdorf we take the bus to Baad. There we start to walk in the direction of Widderstein Hut.

The path which leads us to about 2000 metres is quite nice. We enjoy the walk and the sunshine. After about 1-2 hours we see the path that leads up to Großer Widderstein which is a summit about 2500 metres high. There are many people going up and down the Widderstein today. The last 500 metres
are climbing in grade 1. It is nice to go up there because you always have to use your hands as well which makes the way up more interesting. On the summit we enjoy the view around.

From the summit we take the same way back until we reach the Widderstein Hut. There we enjoy a cold drink and get the last two sleeping places for the night. It is a warm day with lots of sunshine. We had a great dinner and afterwards we went to our sleeping room. We share the room with 18 other people and some of them
are snorring. Nevertheless we sleep well and enjoy the breakfast the next morning.

Now it is becoming more cloudy and we decide to go down to the valley. On our way back to the Kleinwalsertal we see many nice colorful flowers. After a few hours we arrive in Mittelberg where we take the bus back to Oberstdorf. In Oberstdorf we enjoy the last hours of this nice weekend with Strudl and coffee in the Cafe Mozart.

We stayed at the Biberhof camping site in Biberwier and started our trip early the next morning. We drove by car to Arzkasten where we parked the car.

We walked through a forest up to the Lehenberghaus. Then we were a bit confused, should we follow the signs to 'Wankspitze'? Acutally we wanted to go up the via ferrata to the summit of the Wankspitze. Then down to the Coburger Hut and up the via ferrata Tajakante.

After looking at our map we realized that the Wankspitz via ferrata goes the other way round, you have to walk up in the direction of the Coburger Hut and then you can climb up the Wankspitze from the other side. That would mean we have to walk the same way twice when we want to go to the Coburger Hut afterwards. Therefore we decided to descent the via ferrata.

From the Lehenberghaus we walked up to a place called Lacke. This is a really nice place with a great view in the valley below. From there we continued to walk up the Wankspitze. A very nice summit. You have a great view from top of it.

We did the via ferrata in the descent. It was not difficult, but to do it in the ascent is more fun I think. You have to be aware of falling rocks the whole time in this via ferrata. This is a bit annoying.

Before we finished the route we met some people without helmet! This is very dangerous. When we finished the via ferrata we realized that it would not be possible to do the via ferrata Tajakante on the same day. It was already quite late. So we decided to walk up the so called Hölle (hell in English) which is a way up with many many pebbles. One step forward leads to two steps backwards or so 😛

After the so called Höllenreise we could see the Hinterer Tajakopf. The walk up there was really nice - down to the Drachensee and the Coburger Hut. And to the other side to the Vorderer Tajakopf with the via ferrata and the Zugspitze.

After some food and rest at the summit we had to walk all the way back to Arzkasten to our car. Quite a long way! All in all the tour took about 11 to 12 hours.

A long trip but with this beautiful weather really great! 🙂

In March 2011 we had a job interview in Graz. We spent one day in this really nice city. You can walk up a small hill and have a great view of the city from there. This is really good, especially at night. The interview went well and therefore we went up the hill again, we visited a nice cafe, had some coffee and Apfelstrudel and enjoyed a great view of the city.

Another weekend in the Rätikon was ahead of us. We went by bus to the Lünerseebahn and walked up to the Douglas Hut (the same as we did two weeks before). From there we walked to the beginning of the via ferrata Saulakopf. It must have been the hottest day of the year! We were exhausted and sweating when we arrived at the beginning. And there were many many people! But we quickly put on the gear and started before the group of around 10. The way to the top was very exhausting, because of the hot temperatures. We climbed up in the sunshine with a great view to the Lünersee. On the top we had some food and decided to go back to the Douglas Hut quickly, because huge clouds were beginning to cover the sky. The descent down to the hut was also very exhausting, we had no more water and it was still very hot. We had some Skiwasser at the hut and decided to stay there over night (actually we wanted to go to the Totalp Hut). In the evening a huge storm arrived. It was very nice to sit inside the warm hut and watch the weather outside.

The next morning we were a bit lazy and decided to walk up to the Totalp Hut and look for a nice place to relax. We found one and layed in the sunshine for some hours. Then we walked back down to the Lünerseebahn and drove home.
