Summer time is Dolomites time! This year we decided to walk from North to South through the Pala group. The Pala is a not so famous group, but it is very beautiful and not so full with people. We started at the Passo Rolle. From there we hiked to the Rifugio Mulaz. In the afternoon we hiked up the M. Mulaz at almost 3000m altitude. The next morning we continued to the Rifugio Rosetta. The path was really cool with some climbing and perfect views around. From Rifugio Rosetta we did the Via Ferrata Bolver Lugli (C/D). It is 500 metres in altitude and the view down to San Martino di Castrozza is amazing! It finishes next to a bivouac. We walked back to the rifugio and stayed for another night. The next morning we continued to Rifugio Pradidali. There we took the Via Ferrata Porton (C) and Via Ferrata Velo (B/C) to the Rifugio Velo. Rifugio Velo is a very peaceful place. There were only very few other people and we had sunshine for the whole afternoon. We spend the whole afternoon on the sunlounger 😀 The next morning we walked back down to San Martino di Castrozza. This was another perfect vacation in Italy! 🙂

The Marwees Traverse was on top of my wish list for years and finally I did it! 🙂 For the last years I was afraid to do this hike alone because it is marked in blue which means that it is more difficult than an ordinary hiking path.

I started in Wasserauen and went up to Bogarten. From there the path becomes smaller and steep and very exposed. You walk on the side of the Marwees and later on the grassy ridge. The view all around is really amazing! I was the only person there during this time and I could enjoy every meter of it! The Grassy Marwees Traverse is one of the best tours in the Alpstein massive and I will definitely do it again! 🙂

Finally it was time again to go up a high mountain! Together with a mountain guide and two other people I met in Saas Fee. From there we hiked up to the Mischabelhütte. The hut is really nice, but there were many people and we had to squeeze in for dinner. The view down to Sass Fee, which lays 1500m below, is great! The path to the hut is also very interesting as it is almost a via ferrata and walking up there was really worth it.

The next morning we started in the darkness and were able to see the colorful sunrise in the morning from the glacier. All the day there was a storm, it was really cold and icy. That made the ascent quite difficult. In the beginning you just have to walk on a glacier, but for the last hour some climbing on the ridge is required. After about 4 hours we reached the summit, unfortunately it was completely covered in a cloud and we could see only a few meters. We stayed only for a couple of minutes before going the same way back down to the Mischabelhütte. When we left the glacier we also left the cloud and walked the rest of the day in sunshine. The way to the summit of the Nadelhorn is really a great tour and would even be better with sunshine 🙂

For this year I planned to go up the Nadelhorn together with a mountain guide. As a preparation and to acclimatize I arrived in Sass Fee two days earlier.

On the first evening I walked up to the Plattjen after the calbecar stopped running. I was the only person walking around and the view to the high mountains on the other side of the valley was fantastic. I could even see the Weissmies where I was three years ago. During a break I spotted some young ibexes which came really close 🙂

The next morning I decided to walk up the Langflue. Unfortunately the weather was not as good as the forecast said. But still the view of the glacier was great! On the way I saw two cute marmots. In the mountain hut I enjoyed a hot coffee before walking back down to the village.

This weekend was said to be quite good weather, so we decided to spend it in the Tannheimer Tal. We slept at the camping site directly in front of the Haldensee. This is a really nice camping site and we were allowed to set up our tent directly in front of the lake. The atmosphere was very relaxed.

On Saturday we walked pass the Tannheimer Hütte and up to the Rote Flüh. It was already 8 years ago when we did this hike for the last time! From the Rote Flüh we walked down. This path where some parts are not secured by ropes was quite demanding. The via ferrata up to the Schartschrofen was very relaxed and after a short break we walked back down. Unfortunately the sun didn't come out today, but still we enjoyed the day back in the mountains.

On Sunday our muscles were aching a lot and therefore we decided to take it easy. We drove to the Vilsalpsee and walked up to the Landsberger Hütte. From there we walked to the Sulzspitze. This is a really nice summit, no people, and a beautiful view around. On the small hut below we enjoy a cold drink before walking down to the car. The Tannheimer Tal is always worth a journey 🙂
