The summit of the Großer Krottenkopf - the highest mountain of the Allgäuer Alps - is on my wish list for a long time and for today the weather looks very promising 🙂

The Kemptner Hütte is fully booked as always on a summer weekend like this one. So we decide to stay in a cosy hotel in Oberstdorf and go up and down on the same day. We meet many other people on the way to the Kemptner Hütte. When we reach the hut we take a short break. Now the trail is less frequented.

The trail is quite easy, only the last 100 meters require some climbing (I). From the summit the view is perfect! 🙂 We go back down the same way, take another break at the Kemptner Hütte and are back at the hotel 10.5 hours later 😛

Feeling a bit tired today after the Kanzelwand via ferrata yesterday evening we decided to take it easy today and walk up the Walser Hammerspitze.

We started in Mittelberg and hiked to Kuhgehrenalpe. This place looked really nice, but it was a bit crowded by people coming up with the Kanzelwand cable car. We continued to the Hammerspitze. After leaving the path that comes from the cable car we were almost alone. The way up offers great views to the Ifen. From the summit we saw the path going to the Großgehrenspitze. It looked quite interesting and would surely be worth a walk.

But for today we decided to go down to the Fiederepasshütte. There we enjoyed a huge Germknödel 😀 My legs were already aching a lot and I would have loved to stay at the hut and continue the next morning. But we had to go back to work the next day, so after about one hour we slowly walked back down to the car park.

It is autumn again! October can be really beautiful in the Alps! The colors and the light are unique. And when the weather forecast predicted three days of sunshine we just had to take a few days off from work and took the next train to Oberstdorf.

In the morning we took the bus to Birgsau and from there we walked to the Rappenseehütte. Our plan was to sleep one night on the Rappenseehütte, go the Heilbronner Höhenweg the next day, sleep on the Kemptener Hütte and go back down to Oberstdorf on the third day, depending on the weather forecast..

We had blue sky and lots of sunshine the whole day and still we did not meet many other people. We arrived at the hut at about lunch time, so we decided to go for another walk in the afternoon. Actually we wanted to go up to Biberkopf, a very prominent summit in the area, but it was already too late for that. So we went in the direction of Biberkopf and after about one hour we reached the Hochrappenkopf. We stayed only for a few minutes, because the wind was strong and cold. From there we continued to Rappenseekopf. The Rappenseekopf is a beautiful summit. Right opposite you can see the Hohes Licht summit and down the lake with the Rappenseehütte. We stayed for a while and enjoyed the day. Then we hiked back down to the hut where we enjoyed pasta and apfelstrudel 🙂 Not long after eating we slipped into our sleeping bag and slept really well until breakfast 🙂

Today was a really beautiful day! Blue sky and still some snow make the landscape look really pretty 🙂 We started walking in the direction of the Ravensburger Hütte and crossed the Steinerne Meer. After going up a gully after the Steinerne Meer we could already see our summit for today - the Pöngertlekopf. The path to the summit is also unmarked, but not exposed. Still it takes some time to go up there. On the way down it was very slippery and I fell a few times 😛 Before the Steinerne Meer we took the path down to the Formarinalpe and from there we walked back to the Freiburger Hütte.

Today there was still a lot of snow outside! Nevertheless we started to a summit that is not so far away from the Freiburger Hütte. The Formaletsch is a summit without a marked path, so you have to find your own way up. Because of the snow and the wet conditions it was not so easy. It is recommended to only go up there when it is dry. Unfortunately when we reached the top everything around us was covered by clouds and we could not see anything. But I guess with blue sky the view from the summit will be great. 😉
