Not far away from Venice is the island of Murano. Muran is famous for its glass making. And you can buy Murano glass on every corner and in a lot of variations.
Colorful island Burano
This island of Burano is really worth a visit. It is about 40 minutes away from Venice by water bus. The houses on the island are all very colorful and the town has a relaxed atmosphere. We really enjoyed walking along the canals. You can also see the skyline of Venice. Burano is also famous for its laces, they are still made there and you can learn about it in the local museum.
Getting lost in Venice
In September 2014 we decided to spend New Years Eve this year in Italy! So we were looking for a good train connection and found a night train to Venice! We have been in Venice before, but only for one day, and we thought it is definitely worth going there again!
We stayed in Hotel Orion which was quite nice and close to the Piazza San Marco. On New Years Eve the small lanes of the city were crowded with people. Venice has a great firework over the sea and we had a good place right in front of the water to watch it.
Walking in Venice is like walking in a maze, you always get lost. There are so many small lanes! We really enjoyed the special atmosphere of this city. On every corner you discover something new.
Hiking to Faro de Cala Figuera
Today the sun is shining again and it is hot! We cannot believe that it is end of November. We drive to Cala Portals Vells which is about 20 minutes away from Port d'Andratx. Cala Portals Vells is a nice bay with some caves around. We stay a bit at the bay and then we start walking in the direction of the Faro de Cala Figuera. This is a really beautiful walk. You always look at the blue water and around the lighthouse are some nice picnic spots. We also go to the old pirates tower close to the lighthouse. We walk up the tower, but its a bit scary, it is so old that you think it will fall into pieces every minute.
Hiking from Port d’Andratx to Sant Elm
Today it is very cloudy, but still warm. We decide to walk along a path above the cliffs from Port d'Antratx to Sant Elm. In the beginning we walk along a paved road which has been built not long ago, because according to our guide book it is only a path leading up to Mon Port. After about 30 minutes we pass the last houses and then a really nice way continues up to a point where you can look at Sa Dragonera - the Dragon Island in front of Sant Elm. This is a good picnic sport and we stay there for a long time. On the other side of the cliffs it goes down to Sant Elm. Down there many goats are walking along. We spend a long time watching them before we return the same way back to Port d'Andratx.
