One morning we decided to take the water bus to the island of Lido. Lido is famous for its sandy beaches and only 15 minutes away from Venice. So we spent the day walking along the beach. The sun was shining, but it was really cold! So after a couple of hours outside we enjoyed some vegetable soup before heading back to Venice.

Colorful island Burano
This island of Burano is really worth a visit. It is about 40 minutes away from Venice by water bus. The houses on the island are all very colorful and the town has a relaxed atmosphere. We really enjoyed walking along the canals. You can also see the skyline of Venice. Burano is also famous for its laces, they are still made there and you can learn about it in the local museum.
Getting lost in Venice
In September 2014 we decided to spend New Years Eve this year in Italy! So we were looking for a good train connection and found a night train to Venice! We have been in Venice before, but only for one day, and we thought it is definitely worth going there again!
We stayed in Hotel Orion which was quite nice and close to the Piazza San Marco. On New Years Eve the small lanes of the city were crowded with people. Venice has a great firework over the sea and we had a good place right in front of the water to watch it.
Walking in Venice is like walking in a maze, you always get lost. There are so many small lanes! We really enjoyed the special atmosphere of this city. On every corner you discover something new.
One night on the Waltenberger Haus
The weather was said to be perfect for one day and so we decided to take a day off and drive to Oberstdorf. We wanted to go the Heilbronner Weg which is one of the most beautiful paths in the Alps because you have a great view around.
We planned to go from the Fellhornbahn to Einödsbach, from there to the Waltenberger Haus and up to the Heilbronner Weg and then down to the Rappensee Hut. We wanted to stay at the Rappensee Hut and go down to the valley the next morning. When we started in the morning it was really really cold, but the sky was blue and when the sun came it was nice and warm. But when we arrived at the Waltenberger Haus we saw that the complete way up was covered with snow and ice! We talked to the owner of the hut and he said he would not recommend us to continue. So we decided to stay at the Waltenberger Haus and just enjoy the view and the atmosphere of being in the mountains again. The sky was clear this night and there was no moon so we had a great view and could even see the milky way!
